Home sales are at highest rate since 2007

The National Association of Realtors reported that sales of existing homes rose 1.8% in May 2016, to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.53 million. This is the highest level of sales since February 2007. Ralph McLaughlin, chief economist at Trulia, commented:

May’s existing home sales numbers suggest that healthy demand continues to support a recovering housing market, but that inventory woes are preventing a full recovery to pre-recession levels.

Homes sold in May stayed on the market on average 32 days, which is the fastest pace ever measured since tracking began in 2011.
