06 Apr Fairway Employees Volunteer to Serve Others
Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation staff members volunteered together to make 500 delicious sandwiches in order to help feed our homeless neighbors through the Urban Ministry Center’s Operation Sandwich. This program typically serves 800 sandwiches a day, most days of the year.
Established in 1994, the Urban Ministry Center is an interfaith organization dedicated to bringing the community together to end homelessness, one life at a time. It serves as a point of entry to services offered by a network of agencies that work closely together to provide necessary opportunities for the Charlotte homeless population. They draw support and volunteers from across the community, including schools, work groups, houses of faith and individuals.
Melissa Rose, a Mortgage Planner, helped to make sandwiches and was moved by this volunteer opportunity. She shared,
“I always love the opportunity to serve our community with my fellow Fairway employees. Getting together to make something simple that we take for granted daily- a sandwich- for those who depend on that sandwich as possibly their only meal that day was very poignant. So, making sandwiches and creating simple sweet messages and silly drawings on a lunch bag in the hopes of making someone smile and filling their belly gave me great joy yesterday”
Mortgage Planner, Rick Melville, was a volunteer for this project and is passionate about supporting others that are less fortunate. He commented,
“I think it’s outstanding that we as a company and a branch make it a point to give back to the community. We can’t solve every problem, but by contributing a little bit every day, we’re helping make a difference.”
Serving the community is at the heart of who Fairway is as an organization. Staff members thoroughly enjoyed working together to give back and help make a different in the lives of our homeless neighbors. To learn more about the Urban Ministry Center, follow this link.
