25 Mar Fairway Volunteers at Crisis Assistance Ministry
Crisis Assistance Ministry is Mecklenburg County’s leading independent non-profit agency providing the working poor with emergency rent and utility assistance, clothing, household goods, and furniture. Their mission is simple – to provide assistance and advocacy for people in financial crisis, helping them move toward self-sufficiency.
Their ability to help Charlotte’s working poor is the direct result of community support. Crisis Assistance Ministry is a unique public-private partnership that uses a combination of public and private dollars to provide emergency financial assistance in the form of payment directly to rent and utility vendors. More than 94% of every dollar they receive goes directly to programs.
Crisis Assistance Ministry depends on the invaluable contribution of over 50,000 hours per year by community volunteers. Fairway Independent Mortgage of the Carolinas employees decided to step in and help out by volunteering in the Free Store, Charlotte community’s large-scale resource for donated clothing and household items that are given to families in need at no charge, where they banned together to inspect, sort and stock donated items.
All of our volunteers had nothing but great things to say! Deanna Slep, said, “Volunteering a little of my time to help those less fortunate than myself is the absolute least I can do, for I am grateful every day for what the good Lord has blessed me with. I hope that I can, in some way, be a blessing to others, no matter how small the task.” While another, Mary Dunn, commented, “It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with such a wonderful organization. It’s great to have an option for those that are less fortunate. I’m looking forward to assisting Crisis Assistance Ministries so they can continue to support our community.”
Another volunteer, Carolyn Blondin, added, “Crisis Assistance Ministry serves such an important need in our community. It was a pleasure spending a couple of hours there helping the wonderful staff. They were truly appreciative of our time and efforts, but the little bit that we did was nothing compared to the work that they do on a daily basis. Their care and concern for the people that they serve is evident, and I appreciate them sharing their passion with us and allowing us the opportunity to volunteer.” Finally Tony Garshnick said, “So glad I had the privilege of serving along side some amazing people. Our community is a better place when we all take time to help out.”
Fairway Independent Mortgage of the Carolinas understands the importance of helping others and we were honored to assist an amazing organization such as Crisis Assistance Ministry. Their vision is to inspire our community to justice and generosity as we provide help, hope and understanding to people struggling with limited financial resources and we love lending a helping hand!
